Hello!
How is everyone? I have hearing a lot of debate around AI and the impact it has on the illustration field. I participated on the trend #starterpacknoai and it is interesting to see what other illustrators have to say.
There is a lot of uncertainty about how AI will affect the amount of jobs, how it will replace us. So I was intrigued what, for example, publishers have to say. Will they be using AI instead of experienced illustrators? And what the majority said is that they fully support our work, and that AI should be seen as a tool and not as something that will replace us.
When you illustrate, it's not only the manual part you're adding (knowing how to draw a landscape, a human body), it's also your feelings, your experiences, how you see the world. I believe that's unique in every illustrator work you see. You see different backgrounds, stories, interests, believes. I don't believe AI can copy that. It can copy strokes, colors, even styles, but never the feeling that an illustrator (a human being) can evoke.
What are your thoughts on AI? Do you think it is a new tool?
