Tove Jansson was the artist behind a world I discovered a while ago and blown my mind: the Moomins. 

Let me tell you a little bit about them: the Moomins are the central characters in Jansson's series of books, they are a family of trolls who are white and roundish, with large snouts.They live in the idyllic Moominvalley surrounded by nature. They have many adventures with their various friends, lot of characters with very different personalities.

What I like the most form her work is how she shows her personal experience in life through this comic. 

Her illustration style is directed influenced in my job, the simple lines trying to give a lot of character (flat without any background color), and I like the whole story every character has. This are not random animals appearing, they all have their own story. They are intimately connected with the author's story.

If your interested in how she created this amazing world, I recommend you The World of Moomin Valley, in this book you will find character descriptions, their behaviour and habits, behind the scenes and a lot of information about the author and her process. If you are looking for a book that helps to show your own world through illustration this the one for you!
