Hello!!
Hope you are doing great! I have been putting more attention to improve my illustration skills and finding more time to draw! A challenge I am always facing is drawing hands. I believe with practice everything is improved, but I am very anxious.
Things I am taking into account:
-Style: if you review other illustrators, they are all drawing different hands. Larger fingers, shorter hands. This also depends on your style and what you are trying to communicate.
-Position: it is SUPER useful to have a mirror in your desk so you can see your on hands and see how you move it, why, how does it look when you are holding something, how you position your hands according to what you are saying or feeling🤌
-Size: another challenge is to draw hands that make sense with the body size. So it also helps when you are practicing to draw an entire body. Right now I am drawing hands individually but I know I will regret it later.
-Step by step: maybe a good idea it's to start drawing just one finger, so you understand how it should behace. And then you start drawing more fingers, together, interacting. And when you are ready go on with the hand, how it put everything together.
I created a board on Pinterest with some references I used to practice. I also found this video from Miguel Bustos Gómez very useful, you should check it out!
